Grass-fed ghee and oil: know the difference before you start using

Grass-fed cow ghee and oils are two common ingredients in the kitchen, and both are used in cooking. Although it is wise to use all types of cooking oils in moderation, it is always good to know the health and friendliness of all cooking ingredients. So knowing the difference between grass fed ghee and common cooking oils is a vital question so that you can use both ingredients with the best safety.

Grass-fed ghee and oil: the difference in texture

Although grass-fed ghee and oil use seems to be the same, texture-wise, there are some differences. Grass-fed ghee is a dairy product, and clarified butter, whereas cooking oils are viscous, non-polar chemical ingredients. Ghee offers a creamy feel, whereas oil is oily and greasy in its feel.

Origin

Grass-fed cow ghee is produced from 100% grass-fed cow milk butter, which retains some qualities of dairy products without the risk of allergy caused by lactose intolerance. A slow cooking process procures it by evenly heating butter on a slow flame.

On the other hand, cooking oil is produced from plant seeds, animal fats, or synthetic fats. Before buying cooking oil, you need to find the origin of the oil to decide its suitability for your diet.

Use

Both grass fed ghee and oil are used for frying and sautéing. However, with ghee, you can add some extra flavor to your food, but with oil, no flavor will be added to your cooked foods.

Cooking oils can be used for deep frying and usual cooking, whereas ghee can be used in identical ways, but ghee offers a higher smoking point than usual cooking oils. Because of its higher smoke point, ghee is safer than common cooking oils.

Grass fed Ghee offers a slightly buttery taste, but the usual cooking oil is neutral in taste.

Fat content

Grass fed ghee contains high amounts of anti-oxidants and multiple vitamins like Vitamins D, A, K, and E, whereas cooking oils contain trans-fat, monosaturated, and polyunsaturated fats.

Preservation

Both ghee and oil are shelf-friendly, but in comparison to oil, ghee is more shelf-friendly. Good quality grass-fed cow ghee can be preserved without refrigeration for 12-18 months. Before buying ghee, you can always check its shelf-life from its label.

Oil can also be preserved without refrigeration, but in comparison to ghee, it is less shelf-friendly.

Digestive aid

if we compare both grass fed ghee and oil, grass fed ghee helps in smooth digestion, whereas normal cooking oil often creates bloating, flatulence, and discomfort in the stomach. According to modern dieticians, ghee consumption in moderation is always good or healthy, but oil consumption should always be limited to monitor cholesterol counts.

Grass fed ghee and oil: Ghee health benefits

Ghee has one of the highest conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) quantities. CLA is medically proven for improving natural insulin resistance and its supportive quality in fighting cancer diseases. This kind of health benefit is not offered by cooking oil, whether refined or not.

Grass fed ghee contains butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that improves a human’s gut health, whereas refined oil does not have this kind of health benefit.

These are the prime differences between grass fed ghee and oil. However, grass-fed ghee is the best quality of ghee that offers all the health benefits mentioned here.
