  • Active Dry Yeast: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1 tsp
  • Sugar: 1 tbsp
  • Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup
  • Cardamoms: 2
  • Milkio Ghee: 2-3 tbsp

Preparation

  • Take a small bowl. Put 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast of good quality in the bowl.
  • Take 1 and 1/4 cups of lukewarm water. Dissolve 1 tbsp sugar in it. Ensure that the water temperature is not too cold or too hot.
  • Pour this water into the bowl of yeast
  • Keep it aside untouched for 5 minutes
  • Once you see the yeast looking frothy or cloudy, you can assume that it’s all set to be used.
  • Take a big bowl. Mix 3 cups of all-purpose flour, salt, ยฝ cup powdered sugar, and cardamom. Mix it well.
  • Pour the yeast water into the big bowl.
  • Stir thoroughly so that the dough does not look sticky.
  • Next, add Milkio grass-fed ghee to the dough and knead well. Make sure the dough is soft and a bit sticky.
  • Next, take a wet kitchen cloth and cover the dough bowl. Allow it to rest for one hour in a warm place.
  • Later, you’ll notice the dough getting doubled in size.
  • Next, punch the dough to deflate it. Knead it once again.
  • Next, put the dough in a non-stick/ greased bread pan. Cover it with a wet cloth. Let it sit for 30-40 minutes again.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven (150 degrees Celsius)
  • Place the pan inside the range. Bake for 40-45 minutes. As the crust gets golden, you are done! Now allow the bread to cool for 10-15 minutes.

Voila! Your ghee bread is ready.

How to use ghee bread?

Ghee bread, also known as “ghee roti” or “ghee paratha,” is a type of Indian bread made with ghee, which is clarified butter. It is a relishing and versatile bread that can be used in various ways. Here’s how to use the ghee-cooked bread:

  • As a Side Dish: Ghee bread is served as a side dish with Indian curries, stews, and other main dishes. You can tear off a piece of ghee bread and use it to scoop up the flavorful sauces and gravies of your main course.
  • Wrap or Roll: Ghee-baked bread can be used as a wrap or roll to encase various fillings. You can stuff it with cooked vegetables, meats, or paneer (Indian cottage cheese) to make a delicious and portable meal. Place your desired filling in the center of the ghee bread, fold it like a burrito, and enjoy.
  • Dip it: Ghee bread can be cut into smaller pieces and used as dipping bread for sauces, chutneys, or yogurt-based dips like raita. It’s an excellent accompaniment for snacks and appetizers.
  • Sandwiches: You can use ghee-baked bread to make sandwiches. Add your favorite sandwich fillings, such as vegetables, cheese, and spreads, between two pieces of ghee bread for a unique and flavorful sandwich.
  • Toast or Griddle: Ghee bread can be lightly toasted on a grill or toaster to make it crispy. This toasted ghee bread can be served as a crunchy side dish or used to make open-faced sandwiches.
  • Serve with Tea or Coffee: Ghee-made bread makes a delightful accompaniment to your morning or afternoon tea or coffee. For a sweet twist, you can enjoy it with some butter, honey, or jam.
  • Use in Breakfast Dishes: Ghee bread can also be used in various breakfast dishes. For example, you can make ghee bread rolls filled with scrambled eggs and vegetables for a hearty breakfast.

To make ghee bread, you can follow a recipe or purchase it from an Indian grocery store. Making it at home typically involves making a dough from wheat flour, ghee, and water, then rolling out thin circles and cooking them on a grill or skillet until they puff up and become lightly browned.

Remember that ghee bread is rich and flavorful due to the use of ghee, so it pairs perfectly with a wide range of Indian and Middle Eastern dishes. Enjoy experimenting with different fillings and accompaniments to suit your taste preferences.

Why Grass-fed ghee is a better option for making bread with ghee?

Grass-fed ghee is considered a better option for making bread for several reasons:

Nutrient Content:

Benefit: Grass-fed ghee comes from primarily grass-fed cows, leading to a higher nutritional profile. It holds beneficial nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and vitamins A, D, E, and K in higher quantities than non-grass-fed ghee variants.

Healthier Fats:

Benefit: Grass-fed ghee is known for its balanced composition of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats. This balance can contribute to a healthier lipid profile compared to conventional ghee.

Rich Flavor Profile:

Benefit: Grass-fed ghee has a more prosperous and nuttier flavor due to the cow’s varied diet. This can enhance the overall taste of bread when used as an ingredient.

High Smoke Point:

Benefit: Grass-fed ghee has a high smoke point, making it suitable for baking and cooking at higher temperatures without producing harmful compounds. This is important when making bread, which typically requires higher temperatures for baking.

Lactose and Casein-Free:

Benefit: During the clarification process, ghee is stripped of lactose and casein, making it suitable for individuals with lactose intolerance. Grass-fed ghee, in particular, tends to have lower levels of these components.

Supports Sustainable Practices:

Benefit: Choosing grass-fed ghee supports sustainable and humane farming practices. Cows that graze on grass contribute to a more environmentally friendly and ethical approach to dairy production.

Enhanced Nutritional Absorption:

Benefit: The fat-soluble vitamins in grass-fed ghee (A, D, E, K) may aid in absorbing nutrients from other ingredients in the bread, potentially contributing to better overall nutritional absorption.

Antioxidant Content:

Benefit: Grass-fed ghee contains higher levels of antioxidants, which can have potential health benefits. Antioxidants reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.

When making bread with ghee, the choice of grass-fed ghee contributes to a richer flavor, provides potential health benefits, and aligns with sustainable and ethical agricultural practices. Always consider individual dietary preferences and restrictions when choosing ingredients for baking.
