Have you heard of ghee mayo? It’s a special type of mayonnaise made with ghee, giving it a homemade touch. Using mayo in various recipes can be a great alternative to butter. Plus, homemade mayo is always a better option.

Ghee mayo homemade: Why ghee is a better ingredient?

Ghee mayo may sound bizarre as a kitchen staple and not as popular as a ghee recipe.  The main reason is the easy availability of readymade mayo. But generally, ghee-made mayo is a better product for you to use for some logical reasons.

  • Store-bought mayonnaise may contain some sugar that harms consumers, regardless of whether you are following a keto or other weight-loss diet.  
  • Commercially-made mayo contains low-quality oil, which is not healthy for consumption.  Ghee-made mayo is one of the best varieties of mayonnaise, which is hardly available ready-made in shops.
  • If you make mayo at home, you can be sure of the ingredients you have used in the recipe, which is more satisfactory. You should not use mayo made with hydrogenated oil containing trans fats.
  • You can use mayonnaise for roasting or baking processes. Ghee is the best option here because, other than vegetable oils, ghee offers a higher smoke point.
  • When making ghee mayo, you can add the nutrition and flavor of ghee, which is much better than store-bought oil-made mayonnaise.

Ghee mayo homemade: You can make it egg or eggless

Mayonnaise is available in two varieties: egg-based and eggless. However, much herb-infused mayo is also available in the market. You can make ghee mayo, both egg-based and egg-less.

Those who are vegetarian or allergic to eggs should go for an egg-less variety, whereas people who follow a non-veg diet or do not have an allergy to eggs can use both eh mayo varieties.

How to use ghee mayo?

The use of ghee mayo is multiple, however, here we have suggested a few uses of ghee mayo for your culinary use.

  • You may use mayo as a spread on your sandwich, cookies, biscuits, etc. It goes well with potatoes, bagels, bread, etc.
  • Try mayo for salad dressing. Ghee-made mayo offers an oily texture and a unique flavor that enhances the recipe’s taste.
  • You may use Mayonnaise as a thick sauce for French fries, composed salads, and hamburgers.

 How to make ghee mayo?

Instead of oil, we use ghee for making mayonnaise; it is called ghee mayo. The recipe is simple, and you can try it in your kitchen.

  • Take a small pot of water and let it simmer against medium flame
  • Now take 1/2 cup of ghee and melt it.
  • Allow the melted ghee to cool off at room temperature.
  • Now add the olive oil to the melted ghee in a 1:1 ratio.
  • Add 2 egg yolks, little apple cider vinegar, salt, cayenne, and Dijon mustard to a food processor and blend for 1 minute.
  • Now, slowly pour the mix of melted ghee and olive oil into the mix to create a thick emulsion.
  • Add 1 Tbsp sauerkraut juice and blend gently to include all ingredients.
  • Allow the mayo to sit at room temperature in a small fermentation jar for 7 hours. After that, please place it in the fridge.
  • This mayo will stay intact for up to 1 month with freezing support.
  • If you want to make it eggless, omit adding egg yolks.

It can make ghee mayo a better option for those looking to increase their intake of healthy fats.
  • Lactose and Casein-Free: Ghee is typically well-tolerated by people with lactose intolerance or dairy allergies because the milk solids containing lactose and casein are removed during the clarification process. It makes ghee mayo a suitable choice for individuals with dairy-related dietary restrictions.
  • High Smoke Point: Ghee has a high smoke point, which means it can withstand higher cooking temperatures without breaking down or producing harmful compounds. While you wouldn’t typically cook mayo directly, ghee mayo can add a creamy and flavorful element to pan-fried or grilled dishes.
  • Creamy Texture: Ghee mayo has a creamy consistency similar to traditional mayonnaise, making it an excellent choice for spreading on sandwiches, using as a dip, or mixing into salads and dressings.
  • Versatile: Ghee mayo can be used in various dishes and cuisines. It works well as a condiment for sandwiches, burgers, and wraps, a dip for vegetables and fries, or a base for creamy salad dressings and sauces.
  • Nutritional Benefits: Ghee contains fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, as well as butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that may have various health benefits. While ghee mayo is still a high-calorie condiment, it can provide some of these nutrients in moderation.
  • Homemade Option: You can make ghee mayo at home, allowing you to control the quality of ingredients and adjust the flavor to your liking. Homemade versions can also be free of preservatives and additives commonly found in store-bought mayonnaise.

However, it’s important to use ghee mayo in moderation, as it is still a calorie-dense condiment due to its high-fat content. While it offers unique flavors and potential health benefits, it should be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.
