  • Granulated sweetener of choice- 1/2 cup
  • Baking powder-2 teaspoons
  • Salt- 1/2 teaspoon
  • ground nutmeg-1/4 teaspoon
  •  Almond milk (or any other low-carb milk)-1/2 cup, unsweetened

  • vanilla extract
  • Milkio grass-fed Ghee for frying
  • Optional toppings: powdered sweetener, cinnamon, or melted sugar-free chocolate.

Ghee fried donuts: Recipe instruction

  1. Please take a large mixing bowl and gently whisk together the flour, sweetener, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg (if using).
  2. Whisk the almond milk, eggs, melted ghee, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  3. Now, please gently add the wet and dry ingredients and stir until all are well mixed. The dough should turn soft and a little sticky in its final texture.
  4. Carefully transfer the mix to a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for a minute or two until it becomes smooth. Avoid over-kneading.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut or a round cookie cutter to cut out donut shapes. You can also use a smaller round cutter to remove the center to create traditional donut shapes.
  6. Heat ghee in a deep pan or pot over medium heat. Make sure there is enough ghee to submerge the donuts.
  7. Carefully place the donuts into the hot ghee, frying a few at once. You should cook for 2-3 minutes per side until the donuts turn golden brown. It will help if you use a slotted spoon or tongs to flip them.
  8. Once fried, remove the donuts from the ghee and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
  9. If desired, while the donuts are still warm, sprinkle them with powdered sweetener and cinnamon, or drizzle them with melted sugar-free chocolate for added flavor.
  10. Let the donuts cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed fresh. However, ghee fried donuts can be stored in an airtight pot for a day or two.
